TITLE: Can additive manufacturing lead to an improved performance for electrical machines?
Integrating additively manufactured parts in the electromagnetic part of a machine, i.e., copper windings or electromagnetic elements of the stator/rotor core, requires high quality AM. The challenges are large as it involves being able to print high graded electrically conductive, magnetically conductive and electrically isolating materials in complex geometries wherein the ability to print multi-materials would be beneficial. But if successful, the route is open to more sustainable, energy efficient or powerful machines.
