TITLE: Material expert challenges in the hydrogen economy: light element – heavy stuff
Storing hydrogen has long been identified as the potential game stopper for a hydrogen economy. State-of-the art H2 storage technologies are energy intensive. Fortunately, the use of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) allows to potentially lower the energy requirements, that is, if we can either couple the H2 release units to low grade waste heat sources, or displace the energy requirements towards the H2 storing side (versus the release side).
